The Lodge is situated in the shadow of the Ukhahlamba Drakensburg Park, a world Heritage Site. The whole area is both beautiful and informative to the curious visitor.

Other activities in the area:
A 9-hole Golf Course only 3km’s away at Glengarry.
- Horse Riding 4kms at the Spotted Horse.
- A Visit to the KambergNature Reserve to see Wildebeest among other animals and Bushman Paintings.
- A visit to the Highmoor Nature Reserve to see the Trout Hatcheries or just absorb the picturesque views of the Drakensberg.
- The Giants Castle Nature Reserve is also close by with trails to the dam and Bushman Caves.
- A slow drive around on “The Midlands Meander” famous for it Arts and Crafts, by creative folk selling directly from their homes as well as extravagant and quaint restaurants, Pubs, Hotels and Country Houses is a must for everyone.
- The Crane Foundation is close by on good roads. Visit them to learn more about this incredible bird and the plight to save them from extinction.
- Further off are the Howick Falls and Midmar Dam approx. 45 minutes away. Here you can enjoy the flea markets, restaurants and parks around the famous Waterfall or picnic around the massive hydro dam while boats and yachts take to the water.

Special Activities:
Hot Air Ballooning
We can arrange a flight for you in a hot airballoon from a site that is either at the Lodge or close by, depending on the wind and weather.
- Hot Air Ballooning SA will fly you for about an hour over the Midlands early in the morning and bring you back to the Lodge for breakfast.
- The whole experience will take about 3 hours.
- The minimum number of people on a flight is 6, with a maximum of 10 per balloon.
- For large parties Ballooning SA will bring a number of balloons to fly you all.
- If you don't have 6 people in your party who want to fly, Ballooning SA will try and make up the numbers from people staying at other establishments in the area.
The cost is R2200 to R2400 per person.
- Please book your flight when you arrive at theLodge, or earlier if possible, as the weather may not be conducive for flying on the specific day you want to go.

Helicopter Flights
- Westline Aviation operates from Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort in the Champagne valley, north of the Lodge, and is prepared to fly one of their helicopters down to the Lodge to take you on a thrilling flight over the Drakensberg.
- Arrange with our staff for a flight and as the helicopter has to fly down from Dragons Peaks, it will be cheaper per person the bigger the party flying.
- The Roberson R44 helicopter takes 3 passengers per flight and the Bell Jet Ranger takes 4 passengers.
- Depending on the weather, the flight will typically fly you from Silver Hill over the Berg for 20 minutes.
- If it can, it will land for about 25 minutes at Giants Castle and serve you champagne.

- The Roberson R44 Helicopter:
If the helicopter is in the area, flights for 1-3 passengers - R2000
If the helicopter has to fly down from Dragons Peaks:
1-3 passengers - R5500
4-6 passengers - R7500
7-9 passengers - R9500

- Please ask at reception to arrange your flight as early as possible in
your stay as the Drakensberg weather can be unpredictable.
